Obituary:
Virginia Agnes Lyon, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, educator, passed away on June 11,2024, in Oakdale, Minnesota. She was born on July 18, 1940, in Ashkum, Illinois, to her loving parents Leland and Cecile Hubert.
Virginia's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with threads of love, faith, and music. During her time at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, she met the love of her life, John Lyon when they crossed paths in a clarinet class. Together, they dedicated four years of their lives to serving in the Corps in Liberia, teaching in a village school—an experience she held dear to her heart.
Deeply rooted in her Catholic faith, Virginia found joy in singing in the choir at St. Pius X in White Bear Lake, and imparted her musical passion by teaching music in schools and offering piano lessons from her home while raising her children. Her legacy extended beyond the classroom as she passed on the tradition of baking Christmas cookies—a gesture of love that her grandchildren will always cherish.
In remembrance of Virginia Agnes Lyon are her devoted husband of 64 years, John Lyon; her children Felicia (Daniel) Kohlberg, Martinique (Colin) Hartwig; Nicolet (Marc Cooley) Lyon; grandchildren Hollyann, Madeline, Abigail, Eleanor, Cecilia, Jamison, Eirre; as well as numerous nieces and nephews who were touched by her care and kindness.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents Leland and Cecile Hubert; siblings John Hubert and Cecilia Fisher.
Services to celebrate Virginia's remarkable life will be held at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Oakdale on June 21st, 2024. A visitation will take place from 10:00 AM, followed by a Mass at 11:00 AM. Let us come together to honor Virginia's memory and find comfort in each other during this time of loss. May she rest in eternal peace knowing she was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
