Virginia Melin

Virginia Ruth Green Melin was born August 22, 1925 in Seward Nebraska to Langdon Dewey and Ruth Elizabeth Reynolds Green. She attended the Seward Public Schools and graduated in May 1943. Virginia attended Concordia University and graduated from the University of Nebraska in June 1947. She taught school in McCook, Nebraska, Grand Island Nebraska, and Lincoln, Nebraska. She met Robert Bruce Melin while attending St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Grand Island. They were married August 21, 1954 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Seward, Nebraska and moved to White Bear Lake, Minnesota. In Minnesota Virginia taught in Mounds View (Snail Lake School), White Bear Lake, Minnesota followed by eight years of home bound teaching. She graduated from Macalester College in 1957 and was inducted into Delta Kappa Pi (national honor society for teachers of outstanding scholastic ability and accomplishment in the teaching field). She was active in St. John in the Wilderness Church of White Bear Lake in the C.C.W. and Deacon E.C.W., the Diocesan Silk Embroidery Group, past president of St. Johns Altar Guild (32 year member), past president of the Garden Club of Ramsey County, member of the Hand Bell Choir at St. John's and Ascension Church (12 years), past president of chapter DK of the P.E.O Sisterhood and member if chapter FN Stillwater. Virginia was a survivor of cancer, twice. She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Robert. She is survived by son, Chann (Nita) Noun and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at 2 PM at Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 214 North Third Street, Stillwater with a visitation one hour prior to the service at church. Memorials preferred to The Cancer Society, Ascension Church, or Mayo Clinic Foundation.
