Wallace Wakem
Beloved Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather & Brother Age 82 Passed away peacefully on June 14, 2010 after a long struggle with Lewy Body Disease. He will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew him. He is survived by his children, Ellen (Tom) Krans, Steve (Debbie) Wakem, Ed (Toni) Wakem, Darlene Armstrong, Jim (Kelley) Wakem, and Brittany Mottram; grandchildren, Heather, Jason, Crystal, Jesse, Kelly, Justin, Nick, Molly, Jacob, Marais, Caitlyn, and Madeline; 5 great-grandchildren; as well as his sister, Beverly Wakem. Followed in death by son-in-law, Kevin Armstrong. He was born and raised in Madison, WI and graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Madison with a degree in Art Education and later obtained his Masters Degree in Education from Northern Illinois University. He was a lifelong educator who held many positions in the field of education including, Super-intendent of Schools in Merrill, WI, Director of Education at the Minnesota State Prison in Stillwater and teacher at Irondale High School in New Brighton, MN. Dad loved to play tennis and handball, taught himself to play the Saxophone at age 65 and was still roller skating at the Metrodome at age 70. He was an avid historian who loved traveling and Broadway musicals and will always be remembered for his love of dancing, especially for dancing the Lindy. Memorial Service Tuesday, June 22, 2010 11:00 A.M. at BRADSHAW, 4600 Greenhaven Drive at Highway 96 (one mile west of 35E), White Bear. Visitation one-hour prior at BRADSHAW. Private family interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
