Warren Olson

d. December 20, 2013

Olson, Warren Alexander, 83, of St. Paul, MN, passed away peacefully with his family gathered around him, December 19, 2013. Warren graduated from Central High School. He served in the Navy and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Accounting. Our dear husband and dad was a manager at Univac and General Accounting Manager at Munsingwear. He is survived by his loving wife Mary, daughter Carolyn (William) McCarthy, son Jeffrey (Magda) Olson, adored granddaughters Emma and Bella, his sisters Audrey (Paul) Youngren of Denver, Colorado and Marilyn Borgeson of Rapid City, South Dakota, nieces Wendy Youngren-Wier, El Cajon, CA, Anne Youngren-Wright, Littleton, CO, nephew Keith Youngren, Austin, TX and much loved extended family. Warren was preceded in death by his father Alexander August Olson and mother Agnes Randine Olson.

Warren was born on March 11, 1930 in St. Paul and was baptized in the Gloria Dei English Lutheran Church on Hague and Victoria Streets in St. Paul. He was confirmed at that church in 1944 and became a leader in a very active Luther League of teenagers, a group that put on occasional dinners, sleigh rides, hay- rides and an annual Fall Camp. Later, he and a few other enthusiastic friends organized a Young Adults group. As an adult Warren served as Treasurer of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in the late 1960s. In recent years, he and his wife Mary led the Active Adults group.

Warren had a love of trains, and in retirement volunteered with the Minnesota Transportation Museum. He loved everything about it, from helping to restore old trains, to putting on his blue and white overalls and cap to crew a train ride or take kids on a tour. He also served as controller of the Railroad Division and was elected to serve a three-year term on the Board of Directors.

Warren was proud to have deep family roots in the city of St. Paul and also treasured his Scandinavian heritage. It thrilled him to visit Sweden and Norway and keep in touch with his Swedish relatives.

Warren loved being with his family and treasured their cabin in the north woods, magnificent Lake Superior, his long time friends and listening to music of Bach and Handel as well as the Big Bands of the 30s and 40s. Warren and his closest peers all were quick to agree that they lived in the best of times.
