Passed away unexpectedly at age 87 on January 24, 2024.
Bill grew up in St. Paul and graduated from Concordia High School and then the University of Minnesota. He met his future wife, Peggy, while playing tennis and they were married for 62 years. They raised their four children in the Como Park area of St. Paul before moving to Stillwater, Minnesota. Bill was an architect who worked for Hammel, Green, and Abrahamson (HGA) before founding Anderson Dale Architects (ADA) with Kurt Dale. At HGA he worked on the Myles Reif Performing Arts Center in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and at ADA the Como Park Clubhouse on the Como Golf Course. He served on boards at Rotary International and the Salvation Army.
Bill enjoyed spending summer vacations with his family at the cabin he designed on Lake Pokegama, golfing, fishing, and watching his grandchildren play baseball and softball. For over 30 years he attended an annual silent retreat at Demontreville Jesuit Retreat House.
In retirement, Bill enjoyed walking his sheep dog, Primm, and his cat Frankie; talking to his neighbors and friends; feeding the deer, birds, and other animals that came to his yard; and spending time with his grandchildren. He studied piano for years and loved listening to music and was an avid reader.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy; parents, Einar and Stella ‘Mal;’ brothers, Bruce and Brian (Judy) and brothers-in-law Dick Boldt and Lee Probst. He is survived by children, Stephen (Kim Mason), Heidi (Mark) Wingerd, Michael (DJ Gramann), and Jeff; grandchildren, Jack (Maddy), Andy, and Matthew Wingerd, and Luke and Kate Anderson; brother-in-law, James (Rose Lee) Probst; sisters-in-law, Judy Boldt and Mary Jo Probst; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
