William A. "Bill"
Age 87, of Stillwater
Passed away peacefully in Hospice care on June 12, 2018
He will be sadly missed by wife of 56 years, Bernice; children, Lisa (Rick) Allen and Eric Drier; grandchildren, Benjamin and Matthew Allen; siblings, Bernard (Betty) Drier, Pat Klucsar, Barb Clark and Jim (Ann) Drier; many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Professionally, Bill was a teacher, graduating with a Bachelor's degree from Winona State. His teaching career was put on hold when the Korean War intervened, when he was drafted, ultimately serving two years in Army Intelligence.
After his military service, he continued his education earning a Masters in Education at Winona State. His first teaching job was in Kasson-Mantorville, Minnesota. He then taught for a short time in San Bernardino, California, eventually returning to Minnesota in 1959 to take a job at Stillwater Junior High. He spent the rest of his career there, retiring in 1992. He focused on teaching English and Reading for most of his career.
While in Stillwater, Bill met his future wife, Bernice who was also a teacher. They were married in 1961. Together on their hobby farm they raised two children, Lisa and Eric. They also bred and raised dogs and horses, having as many as thirteen horses at one time. Music and dancing were favorite pastimes he also shared with his wife. Bill loved vegetable gardening with many seasons of large gardens and vegetables he could share.
A constant throughout Bill's life was his love of horses. When he was younger he trained Cricket, his beloved trick and dance horse. He performed with her at local festivals, parades and for children for many years. A life long passion, he continued to raise, ride and train horses throughout most of his life. His love of working with and training horses culminated in 2009, where at the Minnesota State Fair, he won Blue Ribbons for showing a miniature horse.
