Age 80, of Stillwater, passed away on March 26. Survived by loving wife Peggy (Margaret) of 57 years, and eight children: Michael (Jeannie), Maureen Hatteberg (Bruce), Mark, Margaret Thron (Tom), Michelle Ray (Tom), Matthew (Holly), Maria, Mary Kollander (Craig), sixteen grandchildren: Leah Aitkin (Mike), Brent Van Ort (Molly), Kristen Van Ort, Adam Ray (Amy), Ryan Hatteberg (Crystal Fortin), Brian Thron, Christian Ray (Madeline), Ashley Van Ort (Pat Kurtz), Nick Thron, Emily Van Ort, Patrick Van Ort, Ben Van Ort, Katey Van Ort, Morgan Kollander, David Van Ort, Miles Kollander, two great grandchildren: Hannah and Andrew Aitkin, and two great-grand children expected in April and May Also survived by sister, Barbara Mueller (Marjorie Carus) of Brookfield, WI. Preceded in death by parents, Henry and Alice Van Ort; and grandson, John Henry. Bill spent the first 40+ years of his life in St. Paul raising his family with Peggy, and as a St. Paul Police Officer for 28 years. He moved his family to Stillwater in 1973 and spent most of his next 40 years in Stillwater with the exception of nine years in Woodbury, and three years in Fort Myers, FL. He was active in Boy Scouts, Korean War Veterans, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, and he held leadership roles in all of these organizations. Thank you to the staff at The Gables, at Boutwells Landing for their passionate and heartfelt care to Bill while he resided there the past two years. Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, March 31, at 10:30 am, at ST. CHARLES CATHOLIC CHURCH, 409 North Third Street, Bayport, MN. Visitation Wednesday, March 30, from 4:00 - 8:00 pm at BRADSHAW CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTER, 2800 Curve Crest Boulevard (NW corner of Hwy 36 and Co Rd 5), Stillwater and one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Interment St. Patrick's Cemetery, Inver Grove Heights. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to: Cure PSP, St. Charles Catholic Church, or charity of the donor's choice.
