William "Bill" Polley died unexpectedly on April 28, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Diane; children, Eric (Mei), Megan (Joe Cebula), Jeff (Caitlin); grandchildren, Ella, Josephine, Max, Benjamin, Grant, Sam; siblings, Alice Polley, Mary Ann Polley; sister-in-law Cheryl Poepping; brother-in-law Rich Batchelor; nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his 51-year-old pet turtle, “Sharky”. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Howard and Georgiana Polley.
Bill grew up in Rochester, Minnesota. From there, he traveled while in the Navy and moved many times before discovering Stillwater and settling his family here in 1983. He enjoyed many years as a technology consultant and educator at the Science Museum of Minnesota. As a teacher he was in his element patiently imparting knowledge, while always including jokes, trivia, and elaborate stories to make his classes fun.
During his retirement he enjoyed many jigsaw puzzles, playing backgammon, watching Jeopardy, using his chainsaw to cut wood, building fires, cheering for the MN Vikings, eating chocolate and spending time with family and friends.
He will be remembered for his dry wit and his skills as a storyteller. His stories always had an element of truth but included just enough embellishment to make one wonder what to believe. His laughter will be missed by all of his family and friends.
A celebration of Bill's life will be from 3-5pm Friday, June 9 at Bradshaw, 2800 Curve Crest Blvd, Stillwater. Memorials to Minnesota Public Radio preferred.
