Died April 13, 2006, one week short of his 90th birthday. Services will be held on Thursday, April 20th, at Olivet Congregational Church, UCC, 1850 Iglehart in St. Paul, 2:00 p.m. No prior visitation. Bill graduated from St. Paul Central, Carleton College, and received his law degree from the University of Minnesota in 1941. He was married to Jewel VonNyvenheim from 1941 until her death in 1971. Following World War II service as a Major in the Army he went into private law practice. Bill was elected Ramsey County Attorney in 1959 and remained in that position for an unprecedented twenty years. Throughout his life he worked for the betterment of the community through church, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, YMCA and numerous other organizations. He is survived by his wife of 35 years Catherine (Kay), 8 children, 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, most of whom live in the Twin Cities area. Family includes Suzi (Rich) McClear: Brian (Liz) McClear and Kevin McClear; Nancy (Richard) Dana: Marjorie (Charles) Levine- Howie, Rachel and Sam Levine, and Charlie Dana, Juliet Dana, Patty Dana; Sandy Larson: Linda (Joe) Becker- Andrea, Jennifer, and Nicholas Becker, and Nancy (Jerry) Schmidt- Chelsea and Tyler Schmidt; Sue Halligan: Brandy Snyder; Marney Halligan (Dale Hanson): Sean (Katie) Halligan- Seamus and Keira, Deirdre Halligan-Hanson, and Erin Halligan Hanson; Joe (Barb) Halligan: Brynna, Aileen and Owen Halligan; John Halligan (Teresa Mesa): Nicholas Halligan Mesa; Jean Halligan (Jeff Hayes): Will Hayes; and a student who lived with the family as an ?AFS daughter? from Denmark, Lisa Moth Madsen. Bill is also survived by niece Karen Fant, nephew Bill Fant, and niece Jean Davies. He also has a multitude of friends including the exceptional team who offered such tender care: Karin McGillivray, Debra Bain, Kiaya Williams, Tara Simon, Sheila Schultz, and Gustavo Bernal. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Northern Star Council, Boy Scouts of America; Girl Scout Council St. Croix Valley, YMCA Camp Widjiwagan or Olivet Congregational Church.
