Age 89 of New Brighton
Passed away of natural causes surrounded by family on January 18, 2021.
Bill is preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Carol; parents, William Frank and Anna; siblings, Richard, Doris Lensch, Paul, Robert. He is survived by his sons, Reverend Tom (Sarah), Jim (Lisa); grandchildren, Brooke, Mark (Makenzie), Ryan, and Laura Schlotterback, Ryan, Adam (Jenn), and Jenna (fiancé Franco Ferrara) Phillips; great-grandchild, Annika Phillips.
Bill was born on the family farm in Atkins, Iowa on September 15, 1931. He served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Foss for “3 years, 10 months, and 10 days”. During his time in the Navy, he became pen pals with a lovely young woman named Carol whom he would one day marry. After the Navy, Bill attended the University of Iowa where he received his degree in electrical engineering. After graduation, Bill and Carol moved to White Bear Lake where they lived for 47 years before moving to Applewood Pointe, New Brighton. They were members of Community of Grace Lutheran Church since 1960, where they were very active in leadership and volunteer positions. Bill worked at Northern States Powers Company for 31 years. He was an avid softball player his entire life up until he was 60. During his retirement, Bill loved to travel with Carol in their motorhome. He spent plenty of time gardening and fishing, but time spent with his family was most important to him.
