Born in Portland, ND to Gunnar and Elli Elise Enger Balstad on October 25, 1928. Graduated H.S. in 1 946. Served in U.S. Marines, came home and graduated from U of M in 1953. Life long member of Farm House Fraternity. Married to his wife Jackie for almost 50 yrs, Gunnar leaves behind his wife, Jackie; sons, Tim (Sapryna) Stillwater, MN, Mark (Amy) Boise, ID; daughter Gretchen, Roberts, WI; many grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; and older brother, Gerhard. Preceded in death by parents; sister, Helga, and brothers, Fred and Gene. Gunnar was a very active community member in all the cities he called home, including Waseca, Cannon Falls, Blooming Prairie, Litchfield, Marine on St. Croix, Scandia, MN and Bridgewater, SD. Service organizations included, Lions, Rotary, Kiwana?s and many others. Special fondness for the Gammelgarden Museum in Scandia, MN. Celebration of Life at ELIM LUTHERAN CHURCH, Scandia, MN on Wednesday May 30th starting at 2pm. Memorials to Gammelgarden Museum, Scandia, MN.
