Shirley Kinchen was born in Chicago, IL to George and Georgia Elumn. She was the 2nd born of 8 children. She attended Mcosh Elementary School and Englewood High School where she was captain of the cheerleader team. Shirley was a hard worker. She worked for companies such as Monarch Laundry, Marshall Fields, and Montgomery Wards.
Shirley then met her spouse Robert Kinchen and together they had 15 kids. Not only was Shirley an outstanding mother, but nothing stopped her from achieving her goals. Shirley then returned to school, where she attained her Associates Degree in social work from Kennedy King College. She graduated Summa Cum Laude and was a member of the honor society Phi Theta Kappa.
After college Shirley became a social worker on the south side of Chicago within the Cabrini Green community, where she was able to express her passion for helping other people. After being active in the social work field, Shirley went to work for the Chicago Health Club(which later became Bally's Total Fitness). In 2000, Shirley moved to St. Paul, MN for retirement. In her spare time she loved watching TV, and spending time with her family and friends. The residents of her building referred to her as Ms. Shirley and Mama.
Shirley leaves behind 4 siblings; Claudette and Barbara of Harvey, IL, Albert of Chicago, IL and Ronald of New York, NY. She leaves behind 10 children; Raymond(Roberta Wigfield), Ralph, Reginald(Vera), Randall, Rene, Rodney, Roshelle, Ricky, and Russell, and Robin. 60 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As well as a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She joins in heaven; her parents George and Georgia, her siblings George Jr., Charlie, and Nancy as well as her children Roy, Rosalind, and Ronald and two kids she raised as her own as well.
